News. Fireworks light up the house
1st of December, 2016
The skies above Dumfries House’s 2,000 acres were lit up on 5 November as one of the UK’s largest fireworks displays saw around 4,000 visitors flock to the stately home. Staged by London-based events company Starlight Designs, who have provided pyrotechnics for high-profile events including Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace – the display lasted nearly half an hour and featured lasers, 120 tonnes of water, and nearly 2,000 individual electronic cues, all synchronised to music.
This year’s display was held in aid of Marie Curie Ayrshire. Marie Curie’s Nursing Service provides hands-on care and emotional support to people in their own homes. “The fireworks display is always one of our most popular community events and proceeds from ticket sales will be used to benefit those living with terminal illnesses in the local area,” said Kenneth Dunsmuir, Deputy Executive Director of Dumfries House. “We want to give a huge thank you to Dumfries House for choosing to donate to us and support the care offered by our local Marie Curie Nursing Service,” added Elma Mitchell, Marie Curie community fundraiser.
