Head of Gardens at Dumfries House
A rarely available opportunity has arisen for the position of Head of Gardens on the iconic Dumfries House Estate in East Ayrshire, part by the Prince’s Foundation.
The estate is located on the edge of Cumnock in East Ayrshire and was saved for the nation by a trust led by HRH the Prince of Wales in 2008. Since then the estate has grown from strength to strength and consists of Dumfries House which dates back to 1759 and is home to the single largest collection of Chippindale furniture in the world. This stunning estate covers an area of around 2000 acres consisting of farmland, forestry and formal gardens. The gardens are made up of predominantly a 5 acre formal walled garden, woodland garden, education vegetable garden, formal parterres and a 10 acre arboretum.
Over the last 11 years the gardens and grounds have seen a huge investment to make the estate one of the top tourist attractions in the West of Scotland.
This position will be a hands-on role in the daily care and maintenance of the garden as well as managing a small team. The candidate must have horticultural experience with either an RHS level 2 practical/HND/Degree in horticulture along with practical experience in a broad range of horticultural techniques.
