The Chippendale Card Tables. Two of these graceful tables feature in the Family Parlour.
The 5th Earl purchased an exceptionally elegant pair of card tables from Thomas Chippendale and they are the only known surviving pair by him. The tables are raised on cabriole legs and opened by means of a concertine action to reveal a playing surface covered in a green baize.
Described by Chippendale in his bill as 'a Pair of mahog: Card tables of fine wood lined wt superfine green cloth, the knees carv'd and scroll toes to match ye Chairs', a reference to the suite of Chippendale elbow chairs in the house. They cost the Earl £11.
