Certificated Training Programmes Our training programmes in partnership with The Royal Horticultural Society

About

Our Certificated Training Programmes are run in partnerships with The Royal Horticultural Society and help to develop essential skills in horticulture. These programmes take place in our education garden, walled garden and across the Dumfries House estate.

Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Level 1 Practical Horticulture

The Level 1 Award in Practical Horticulture focuses on developing essential basic horticultural skills. Developing these skills not only enhances opportunities for employment but provide the foundation for further study and development at levels 2 and 3. By carefully focusing on key essential skills, it has been possible to develop a practical qualification that can be studied on a part-time basis during the academic year. Pupils will work alongside a specialist tutor to develop their skills based in both the education garden or wider estate. We are currently the only centre in Scotland offering this programme to secondary school pupils.

RHS theoretical and practical qualifications are offered separately in order to provide maximum flexibility to candidates. This qualification is ideal for a small cohort of secondary school pupils who are interested in and would benefit from a vocational qualification. Schools must ensure pupils have adequate outdoor footwear and wet weather garments. All other equipment is provided.

There are no pre-requisites for entry to the qualification.
