Memorial wreath laid at Dumfries House to mark the late Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday

The King’s Foundation have laid a floral tribute at Dumfries House in Ayrshire to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on what would have been her 100th birthday. Education gardener Julie Dougall created a wreath using some of the Queen’s favourite flowers, including Lily of the Valley, and positioned the poignant commemoration under a 400-year-old Sycamore tree in the estate’s Queen Elizabeth II Walled Garden.

The wreath structure is formed of willow from the estate, expertly plaited by Julie, who has crafted a weave of conifer, cryptomeria, skimmia, variegated holly, pieris, camelia buds, larch cones, holly berries, and Lily of the Valley. The finished piece was placed on an easel made by Dumfries House estate carpenter Alex McCluskie.

“I was very honoured when asked to make the wreath. I am very proud to work for The King’s Foundation and I know His Majesty King Charles III had great affection for his mother. So, it seems fitting that we, as a charity, paid tribute to her in this way, in a garden named in her honour.”
