Dumfries House Lodge Terms & Conditions
Dumfries House Lodge is a part of The King’s Foundation. Proceeds directly support the work of Dumfries House Estate and the wider King’s Foundation. Dumfries House Lodge are contactable by telephone at 01290 429920 or by email at dhlodge.reception@kings-foundation.org.
Contract Formation
A binding agreement is formed when:
- You make a reservation to stay at Dumfries House Lodge or receive written booking confirmation, and
- Dumfries House accepts your booking.
Your visitation and attendance at Dumfries House Lodge also signifies acceptance of these Terms.
Payment Requirements
Bookings can be made online through the Dumfries House website, by telephone, in person, or through an authorised third party. A valid credit card must be attached to the booking.
Full payment must be completed prior to departure of Dumfries House Lodge. If guests depart without payment, the credit card against the system will be used to cover any unpaid charges.
Payment in cash is accepted.
Any other forms of bill settlement must be agreed upon in advance with the Dumfries House Lodge manager.
Cancellation and amendments
Cancellation of your reservation is free of charge up to 72 hours prior to the date of arrival of your reservation. Cancellation within the 72-hour period before your reservation will result in full charge of your reservation.
Amendments to your reservation can be made at any time up to 72 hours prior to your reservation.
No shows will result in the full payment of your reservation.
Dining at Dumfries House Lodge
Dinner restaurant bookings must be made with 24 hours’ notice prior to your visit.
Dining reservations are not guaranteed and are subject to availability.
Allergies and dietary requirements must be passed on to Dumfries House Lodge at booking and directly to your server during dining service.
Cancellation by Dumfries House Lodge
Dumfries House Lodge endeavors to honor reservations made. As Dumfries House is the headquarters of The King’s Foundation, operational requirements may change at short notice.
In the unlikely event of cancellation by Dumfries House Lodge, Dumfries House Lodge reserves the right to cancel reservations at any time, including under the following circumstances:
- Unforeseen circumstances, including security and privacy risks of the premises.
- If any clauses in the Dumfries House Lodge’s terms and conditions fail to be met by you and any guests, invitees, associates visiting the premises under your association.
- In event of a Force Majeure. Force Majeure includes the following circumstances: acts of God; red weather warnings and severe weather that could result in danger to life; adherence to government issued closures and guidance; pandemics or epidemics that could result in risk to human life, travel and/or trading; strikes; legal obligations; war; threats and/or acts of terror; any other circumstances or events that are beyond the control of Dumfries House Lodge.
- Damages that render the premise unsafe and/or unfit for guest visitation.
- Dumfries House is not responsible for any costs incurred by guests, including travel, accommodation, or third-party expenses in the event of a cancellation.
Pets at Dumfries House Lodge
Pets are not permitted in any of Dumfries House Lodge’s public areas or bed and breakfast rooms.
Dogs are only permitted in our self-catering units of Cottage One, Cottage Two or Doocot Apartment, at an additional cost. Guests are required to declare dogs in self-catering units prior to arrival.
Dogs visiting the Dumfries House Estate and Dumfries House Lodge must always remain on lead in gardens and walkways.
Damages and Lost Property
You are held responsible for any damage inflicted on the property, amenities, and surrounding premises by you or any guests, relations, invitees, or connections visiting the premises under your association. If damage occurs it is your responsibility to report this to Dumfries House Lodge.
Dumfries House Lodge will not assume or accept responsibility for any damage, loss or theft of property that may occur during your visit to the premises or to the wider Dumfries House Estate before, during or after your stay.
Dumfries House Lodge will not assume or accept responsibility for any damage, loss or theft to motor vehicles or additional attachments (trailers, motorhomes, storage vessels) during the driver/owner’s visit to Dumfries House Estate.
Found property will be held in Dumfries House Lodge’s lost property storage area. If the item is not claimed within one month, this item will be discarded as seen fit by Dumfries House Lodge.
Code of Conduct
Guests must:
- Act respectfully toward staff, other patrons, and property;
- Refrain from disruptive, abusive, unsafe, antisocial, or intoxicated behaviour;
- Adhere to Dumfries House Lodge rules and instructions;
- Following all fire and safety procedures in the event of emergency;
- Failure to comply may result in removal from the property or police intervention.
Alcohol and Bar Service
Alcohol purchased outside of Dumfries House Lodge is not permitted to be consumed anywhere in the Dumfries House Lodge or surrounding premises.
In line with Scottish Licensing Laws, any drinks or alcohol brought onto the premises by you or your guests will be confiscated.
Dumfries House Lodge follows challenges 25 law. If you cannot provide valid ID upon request, Dumfries House Lodge cannot legally serve you.
Alcohol cannot be purchased, consumed or bought on behalf of, any people(s) under the age of eighteen. Anyone caught supplying alcohol for those under the age of eighteen will be removed from Dumfries House Lodge.
Alcohol consumption must remain inside the premises and designated garden spaces. Signage indicates where guests are permitted to drink in the courtyard.
Dumfries House Lodge reserves the right to refuse alcohol service to any guest.
Dumfries House Lodge offers bar service, including alcoholic beverages, for Lodge residents until 2300 hours each evening. Last orders are announced fifteen minutes prior to the termination of service.
Treatment of Staff
Dumfries House Lodge strives to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Any anti-social or abuse abusive towards guests and staff of Dumfries House Lodge will not be tolerated in any circumstances. Abusive behavior may result in your removal from the property and/or wider estate.
Dumfries House Lodge reserves the right to refuse service to any guest.
Instructions by Dumfries House Lodge must be followed during evacuations of the building or emergencies.
Guests must follow rules and regulations of Dumfries House Lodge.
Children at Dumfries House Lodge
Dumfries House Lodge will not accept responsibility for any unaccompanied minors.
Children under the age of eighteen cannot be left unattended in bedrooms or common rooms at Dumfries House Lodge.
Bookings cannot be accepted for unaccompanied people under the age of eighteen.
Children must be always supervised by a parent or guardian.
Right to Remove Guests
Dumfries House Lodge reserves the right to refuse admission or require any guest to leave where it is deemed reasonable—for example, due to safety concerns, disruptive behaviour, or breach of these terms.
Health & Safety
Guests must comply with all health and safety instructions, emergency procedures, signage, and security requirements.
Tampering with security equipment or entering restricted areas is strictly prohibited.
