Architectural Column Detail. The room has a very high ceiling and is lined in cedar wood, which is a natural moth repellent.
The classical fluted columns, crowned with a set of four ionic volutes, form a screen at the north end of the room. They support a frieze with carvings of vine leaves, putti (cherubs or cupids), birds and grapes. The wood was carved in the Bute family’s Cardiff workshops and transported by train to Ayrshire.
