News. Dumfries House Estate open to visitors (UPDATED)

30th of April, 2021

Updated: 19th July, 2021

We are delighted to announce that The Coach House Café has reopened, serving lunches, snacks and refreshments daily from 10am-4.30pm.

Customers with a smartphone are asked to download the NHS ‘Check In Scotland’ app prior to visiting or when you arrive. Our friendly staff will be on hand to remind every customer over the age of 16 (not just one per household) to check in and check out. Paper forms are available for guests without smartphones.

On arrival, customers will be assigned a table and can place their orders via table service. In a slight difference to government guidelines, because of space restrictions and table formats, we will accept 6 people from 3 households at tables on our outside terrace and 4 people from 2 households inside. Children under the age of 12 do not count towards the total number of customers at a table.

Contactless payment is encouraged and card payments are accepted, but we are not accepting cash in order to maintain positive hygiene among our staff and guests.

Those taking away food and drink are encouraged to buy from the kiosk adjacent to the café and Visitor Centre. The kiosk will serve hot and cold drinks as well as homebaking, ice cream and ice lollies, and sweet and savoury snacks. It will remain open, weather-permitting, from 10am-4.30pm every day.

Toilets within the café are available to café customers, while two toilets within the Visitor Centre next door will be available for public use.

We look forward to welcoming you back!

We are also delighted to announce that Dumfries House Lodge, the estate’s five-star luxury B&B, reopened to guests on Saturday 1 May.

The country guest house, which sits on the edge of the 2000-acre estate and is a just a few minutes’ walk from Dumfries House itself, was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2012. The award-winning lodge features 22 luxurious guest rooms and two self-catering cottages.

In line with government guidance, whilst the wider Estate and the Walled Garden will remain open (with toilet facilities to the rear of the visitor centre open daily from 9am-5pm) all other buildings and facilties on the estate will be closed.
