News. Eat local at our monthly market
13th of December, 2016
Food is a serious business at Dumfries House, where you’ll find education programmes that teach children about the origins and cultivation of vegetables and meat. It’s no surprise then that the estate is now holding a farmers’ market on a monthly basis.
Held on the third Saturday of each month, the market features only produce that has been sourced from within a 60-mile radius, which ensures that the food is genuinely fresh and local.
Expect to pick up fresh veg, fruit, jams, chutneys, honey, local cheeses, rare breed and duck eggs, meat pies and sausages from nearby establishments including Barlochan Highland Beef, Battlefield Bakery and Rhone Cottage.
This month’s instalment naturally has a Christmas theme. Held on 17 December and open from 10am until 4pm with over 20 stalls already confirmed, you can find handcrafted presents from Wombles Shoes, The Moniaive Chocolatiers, Aye Glass and Slated. A perfect one-stop (farm) shop for the holidays.
