The Coat of Arms of the 5th Earl of Dumfries. The coat of arms showcases the status and lineage of the 5th Earl of Dumfries.
The thistle motif of the Knight of the Order of the Thistle, which the Earl attained in 1752, is displayed alongside the figure of a Wyvern (a dragon-like creature) taken from the Crichton family crest from his mother's side. The family motto, 'God Send Grace' is painted on the swirling gilded ribbon, below a roundel flanked by lions rampant.
These motifs are reinforced by Alexander Peter's hall chairs, which bear the collar of the Order of the Thistle with alternating Wyverns and stars of the Order of the Thistle.
