Schools Programmes Workshops on offer for school pupils
Our day visit programme for schools is offered on a seasonal cycle with opportunities to plant, harvest, cook and eat homegrown produce as standard, all based in our organic vegetable garden. The curriculum is enhanced with workshops focused on understanding the diversity of nature through woodland studies and pond-dipping. In addition, wellness classes develop an understanding of our senses and how we interact with and react to the world around us making use of the natural, sensory produce available to make products such as scented soaps. Creative workshops develop an understanding of the principles of geometry through plant studies. Linked activity day packages are available to broaden pupils understanding of the principles of sustainable food with our education farm or STEM centre. We cater for class sizes up to 30 with a minimum booking of 10. Materials are charged at £3.60 per child.
Growing Together Cooking Together
Growing Together, Cooking Together is a year-long programme aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle choices and encouraging pupils to learn in an “outdoor classroom” environment.
Lasting a full year, Growing Together Cooking Together, lets pupils experience the full cycle in the garden along with developing their teamwork and horticultural skills. They spend time in our cook school and restaurant learning to make complimentary dishes to serve at a harvest festival in their school using produce grown in their own hand made wooden planters, the building of which is supported by our in-house joinery team. The planters are located in the school grounds or location of choice. This programme embeds the sustainability message around locally grown food in healthy soil and is ideal for supporting personal growth as well as addressing issues around food poverty. Each child completes a diary with instructions and should the school wish to continue the programme we encourage each child to mentor a younger pupil to enable a process of ‘learn, practice, teach.’
