The William Mathie Mirrors. Commissioned by the 5th Earl of Dumfries in 1759 to adorn two public rooms.

The 5th Earl commissioned two pairs of gilt wood pier glasses from William Mathie of Edinburgh. One pair feature on the south side of the room and are shown here reflecting the Raeburn portraits, while the second pair are to be found in the Pink Dining Room. In the rococo style, they feature organic designs with swooping swirls and scrolls.

Below sit one of two pairs of console tables provided by George Mercer, with the second pair featuring in the Pink Dining Room. Mr Mercer only ever received part payment for them.
